Mushroom Farm Evaluation
CSERT Safety recently worked with two mushroom growing operations to provide occupational health and safety evaluation services. The work included a process tour of each facility to: assess work practices, conduct a hazard assessment of product handling practices, provide a personal protective equipment review, and conduct air monitoring for potential airborne dust exposures. After the assessment recommendations for enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE), PPE awareness training along with signage referencing PPE needs and labeling of confined spaces were discussed with each client.

Air sampling results were compared to OSHA and American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) standards and guidelines. ANSI approved safety eyewear and the continuation of NIOSH approved respiratory protection were among the recommendations offered.
